MEN’S 1ST TEAM SECURE LEAGUE TITLE

Needing only to avoid a heavy defeat at Hollington the 1st Team did the business yesterday and secured the ESFL Division 2 title.

Second placed Hollington, who needed a win of any margin to at least guarantee promotion, gave it a good go, coming back from Saints taking an early 2 goal lead to level it up before half time, then with just 8 minutes remaining take the lead. But George Sambrook’s late equaliser ensured Saints finished the season on a high and won the league on points, not just goal difference. Saints other 2 goals came from George Wheeler and Tom Wilding.

UNDER 10 YELLOWS WIN NEWHAVEN TOURNAMENT

The Tournament season has only just begun, and already we have our first success of the summer.

Jubililant scenes in Newhaven yesterday afternoon as the U10Y’s defeated Peacehaven 2-0 in the final. Earlier they had topped their group before overcoming our own U10R’s in the semi final. The Reds hung around to cheer on their mates in the final in what was a truly great day and great start to the Tournament season for the Club.

Well done to Manager Ian Gosling and coaches Peter Searle and Chris Healey, and of course all the boys.

MEN’S 1ST TEAM ON BRINK OF WINNING LEAGUE

Despite missing out on the League Cup, and this week bowing out of the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup at the semi final stage, the 1st Team all but clinched the ESFL Division 2 title yesterday with a 5-0 win at Mayfield. With just 1 game to go they are 3 points clear of 2nd placed Hollington Utd, whom they play in the final game next Saturday. Saints have a superior goal difference of 22 over Hollington, meaning that the only way we can be caught is for Hollington to beat us by 12 clear goals.

The goals yesterday came from Tom Wilding (2), Luke Turner and George Sambrook (2).

LEAGUE TITLE GLORY FOR U13 BLACKS

Having finished level top of SSYFL Division 4 with Eastbourne Borough, the U13 Blacks played off for the title on the Priory Lane Stadium 3G pitch this afternoon. The two sides finished the season with identical records, having only lost one game each - that being that they had both beaten each other once. And they played out a high tempo, high quality game that was a credit to both Clubs. Goalless at half time Saints went in front when top scorer George Murphy headed in a corner, a lead he doubled 10 minutes from time when he smashed a 20 yarder in off the underside of the bar. But agonisingly Boro scored twice in the last two minutes to take the game to extra time. And in the first half of that Saints sealed the victory when Niall Scott-McWall thumped in a penalty. Congratulations to Manager Paul Parks and all the Team who were every one of them superb today. And with 43 goals in all competitions this season George Murphy looks like finishing the season as the top U13 scorer across all divisions.

AROUND THE GAMES TODAY

Some great results out there today. The U8Ys got a draw and a win over Premier Utd, as did the U9s against Pass + Move. The U10Bs won both their games at Premier Utd, as did the U10Ys at home to Eastbourne Town, and the U11Ys their game at Seaford Town. The U16s drew 1-1 with Lindfield, and the U18s (pictured) came from a goal behind to defeat Perrywood Sports 4-1.

Yesterday the Men’s 1st Team made it through to their second Final of the season, this time the Wisdens Sports League Cup. Goals from Phil Broom (2), George Sambrook and Tom Wilding saw  off Victoria Baptists to set up a 9th April date at the Pilot Field in Hastings with Icklesham Casuals.

MINI KICKERS GET FIRST TASTE OF MATCH ACTION

With the days fixture list once again decimated by the weather, one game that did go ahead today was a first ever match for the current Mini Kicker section. And what a great start they had. In freezing conditions that were deemed unplayable by most older age groups, the lads, who will form next seasons U7s registered two 2-1 wins over Polegate Grasshoppers.
