U14’s TRIUMPH ON PRIORY LANE 3G

Only a couple of games survived the bad weather today, and one of those was always going to be the U14s who were playing away at Eastbourne Borough in the main Priory Lane stadium on their new all weather 3G pitch. And what a day they had, as not only did they enjoy the experience, but they returned with all 3 points after a convincing 7-3 win. Goal scoring heroes were Dominic Sharpe and Jack Scarbrow with a hat-trick a piece, with a special mention also for Lee Venner who put in a great debut performance.

GAMES OFF TODAY

Overnight and continuing rain means lots of flooded and unplayable pitches. All  home games are OFF, leaving just the away games for the U12Y at Polegate Grasshoppers and U14 at Eastbourne Borough as on..

Yesterdays Men’s game at Magham Down also fell foul of the weather, as has this afternoons Vets game at home to Sidley.

GREAT START TO 2017 FOR MENS TEAM

The few games that were played today didn’t result in any wins, but there was some success yesterday. Firstly the U9Ys traveled to Brighton to play relatively new side Carden Pumas and returned with a 1-0 and 4-0 win. The fact that the opposition did not score was reported on both teams’ Facebook match reports as being down to an inspired performance in goal from Gonçalo Silva. Not only that but it was great to read the Carden Pumas report that praised not only the quality of Saints’ team but also the conduct of our friendly parents and fans. Well done all - a credit to the Club.

Then in the afternoon the Mens Team took on Mid Sussex Division 4 leaders Ridgewood in the County Cup. Ridgewood arrived on the back of winning their last 27 games in a row, but we sent them them away empty handed and booked our place in the Quarter Finals with a 2-0 win.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, AND WELCOME BACK

Football returns this weekend with training at Hampden Park (for just 1 week before we decamp to the Eastbourne Academy 3G for 10 weeks Winter Training).

There are matches for most 9 and 11-a-side teams on Sunday, plus one for the U9Ys on Saturday (instead of training). Most of the 5 and 7-a-side teams resume matches on 22nd January.

Also on Saturday afternoon this week our Mens Team have their biggest game of the season so far as they entertain Ridgewood from Lewes in the last 16 of the Sussex Junior Cup - kick off 1.30pm at Old Town Rec.
