THIS WEEKEND’S ROUNDUP

Not games for all teams this weekend, but there were games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pick of the results being the U7s with two wins against Eastbourne Borough, 5 goals there for Leo Yarnton, and a well earned 1-0 win, also against Borough, for the U12Bs. Also of note was the U10s getting themselves prepared for next season’s 9v9 football (bigger goals, bigger pitches and offside included) with a practice match against the U12Ys.

And the great news from the Men’s Team is that they have a Cup Final to look forward to as they defeated Hailsham Athletico 6-1 in the Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup Semi-Final, George Sambrook starring with 4 goals.

The Vets Team didn’t fare so well this week, losing 6-1 to Polegate Town, but we are pleased to report that in addition to another performance from Martin Cavie, Club coaches Brian Isted (U10) and Richard Porter (MKs) also played this week.

UNDER 9 YELLOWS REACH PREMIER TOURNAMENT FINAL

The U9Ys took part in the Premier Utd FC Tournament in Seaford this afternoon, their first ever competitive tournament. And what a day they had.

They won 4 and drew 1 of their 5 group games, scoring 14 goals and conceding only 2. That earned them a place in the semi final where goals from Jason Perinbam and Matthew Searle (2) saw them to a 3-0 win over Peacehaven. The final unfortunately was a game too far as a very good Ratton Rangers side triumphed 2-0. Runners up - a thoroughly enjoyable day for all involved and for the whole Club to be very proud of.

The main Tournament season kicks off at the end of April and all Managers have recently been sent a list of all those we have been invited to, so they can submit their entries. So cold as it is at the moment we can start dreaming of those days of tournaments in the heat to come in the not too distant future!

MARTIN CAVIE SAVES THE DAY FOR THE VETS TEAM

Our Vets team played just their 3rd game of the season today as they hosted Sidley Utd on the 3G at the Sports Park. Unfortunately a few late withdrawals saw the squad reduced to just 10, and so an appeal for players was put out on Facebook. And so a massive thanks goes out to U10 Manager Martin Cavie who answered the call and came along to help the cause. In fact he did more than that as he lasted the whole 90 minutes at right back and helped ensure the team’s first win as they came from behind to win 2-1. There may have been some fitter and more skillful players out there, but Martin made some telling goal saving tackles (and nearly scored the goal of the match - at the wrong end!), and the (slightly biased) website has declared him man of the match. Thanks also to U10 coach Brian Isted who also turned up as an unused substitute/moral support for Martin.

NOT MANY GAMES, BUT LOTS TO REPORT

Only half our teams in action this weekend, but so many good results to report it is difficult to know where to start…so in age order:

The U7s got two big wins against Black Hawks, 13-0 and 7-0, with Kai Vieira netting 10 times over the two games.

The U9Ys played Eastbourne Town on Saturday and won 2-1 and 2-0, then on Sunday put in a top performance in the Premier Tournament (see next article).

The U9Rs played Friday evening and recorded a win and a defeat against Seaford Town.

The U10s had their first game since 4th December at Seaford Town, and returned with 5-1 and 8-0 wins.

The under U18s (pictured) 5-0 success over Hastings Athletic owed much to a Sonti Somarib hat-trick.

Only the Men’s Team failed to perform well this weekend as they slipped to their first defeat of the season, though are still 7 points clear at the top of Div 4.

ALL THE ACTION AT THE YOUNGER END OF THE CLUB TODAY

Not only did our Mens Team not have a game yesterday, but the U14s, U15s and U18s all had their games postponed today, leaving it to all the younger age groups to fly the flag. And fly it well they did as all the U7, U8 and U9 teams wone at least one of their two games, with the U7 and U9R (pictured) winning both. The U7s triumphed 10-2 and 5-2 over Pevensey & Westham, while the U9Rs 3-1 and 9-0 at Polegate Grasshoppers.

Half Term next weekend so not many games.
